RO water vs distilled water: what is the difference?

Reverse osmosis uses pressure and a membrane to separate water from many dissolved salts. Distillation heats water and collects the vapour as it condenses. Deionisation uses a different treatment to remove dissolved ions. These names describe processes; the finished water still needs to meet the requirements of the intended job. The US Geological Survey explains the distinction between membrane treatment and distillation.

Can I use RO water instead of distilled water?

Only when the equipment maker or application requirements accept it. RO, distilled and deionised water are not automatic substitutes. A clear appearance or a low conductivity reading alone does not establish every aspect of water quality.

Agriculture and hydroponic nutrient mixing

Hydroponics is one of the uses listed for our RO water. A 5L container can be convenient for a smaller preparation batch; the 20L option suits a larger mixing session. Measure your starting water, follow the nutrient product instructions, and check the finished solution against the crop and growth-stage requirements.

The University of Minnesota Extension hydroponics guide explains why source-water pH and electrical conductivity matter. Water supplies the base for the solution; it does not replace a balanced nutrient mix. For larger irrigation needs, assess the required volume and water quality before ordering containers.

Steam irons and household appliances

Steam irons, humidifiers and evaporative coolers are among this product’s existing label-listed uses. The model’s instructions still determine the correct water. Some appliances accept tap water, some specify a mix, and others require a particular treated-water type.

For example, Philips provides water guidance for specified iron and steamer models, while one Philips iron manual advises against using distilled water alone. Read the manual for your exact model before filling it; do not apply one model’s advice to every appliance.

Cleaning and rinsing

Cleaning and rinsing are also listed uses for our RO water. Follow the cleaning product’s dilution directions and the surface or equipment instructions. Water choice does not replace the specified cleaning method.

Cars: check the battery and coolant requirements first

A request for car water is not enough to select a product. Battery topping-up and coolant preparation are different tasks with different requirements. Trojan Battery’s maintenance guidance addresses distilled and deionised water for flooded batteries. A Ford owner-manual example specifies the correct coolant and distilled or deionised water.

These sources do not establish approval for our RO water in your vehicle. Follow your vehicle, battery and coolant manufacturer’s instructions. We do not recommend this RO product as a substitute for a specified battery water or coolant mixing water without the required product specifications and manufacturer acceptance.

Published UAE delivery is AED 25 per order. For example, one 5L RO container at AED 17.19 plus that delivery charge totals AED 42.19.
